2024 in Review: New Markets, New Technology, and Community Impact
We here at Sun for Rent are pleased to close out another successful year, and excited about the opportunities that this coming year affords. Here’s a look back at 2024.
Portable Solar Generators Powering Both Coasts
We’ve steadily grown ever since our first year offering solar generator rentals, and now we’re proud to, literally, be a nationwide company.
Our first customers were in California, which is the state where our main headquarters is located. In 2024, we’ve grown to provide mobile solar generator rentals in 10 states. Most are in the Western States, but we’ve also expanded to Florida . That’s coast-to-coast with California and Florida. We expect to offer rentals in still more states this coming year.
Supporting Community Events
As we continue to expand, we aren’t forgetting our home state here in California. Our company participated in numerous community events in and around Atascadero, CA. We were at Sherriff’s Day supporting the blue, Beyond 2024, and others.
It’s always good to connect with and support the communities where we operate. Participating in events like these also affords us opportunities to share more about solar power and renewable energy.
Most people are now familiar with installing solar panels on homes and commercial buildings. Many still aren’t aware of the possibilities that standby solar generators offer for construction sites, seasonal off-grid cabins, equipment failure, disaster response, and still other applications.
Solar vs Diesel Generators
Even more, people are often surprised to find out just how cost-effective a portable solar generator rental can be when comparing the differences between solar vs diesel generators. Take a construction site, for instance. A diesel generator might cost $1,500 per month per shift, which equates to $4,500 per month for one generator that additionally consumes a gallon of fuel each hour. A solar generator is often less expensive to run, uses sunlight rather than diesel, and can still produce plenty of power.
Solar Power Tax Incentives in 2025
The federal solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) remains a powerful incentive, offering up to 30% in tax credits for solar investments through 2032.
For construction companies, these incentives are particularly valuable. Contractors can now include mobile solar solutions in their environmental compliance plans, potentially qualifying for both federal and state-level benefits. For detailed state incentives, visit DSIRE (dsireusa.org), the most comprehensive source of solar incentive programs. Construction sites using portable solar generators may qualify for green building certifications like LEED points (usgbc.org/leed), while simultaneously benefiting from renewable energy tax credits.
Want to maximize your tax benefits? Our team can connect you with local solar incentive specialists who understand both permanent and portable solar applications. Visit Solar Tax Credits Guide to learn how your specific project could benefit from current solar incentives.
While future legislation is always uncertain until passed, we expect to see continued tax benefits for solar power. States will likely continue their current tax credit and other programs, and some might add new programs in an effort to promote both green energy and jobs.
Hopefully, some of these programs will extend to construction sites where temporary solar power is needed. Contractors in certain states might be able to get a tax benefit solely for solar, or as part of a broader effort to operate an environmentally responsible building site.
All of this could happen, but we’ll have to wait and see what legislation actually gets enacted this year.
New M1A1 Mobile Solar Generator
One of our most exciting projects in 2024 has been our collaboration with Mobile Solar on a new mobile solar generator called the M1A1. We’ve been working closely with their team to bring together two decades of industry experience into a truly innovative American-made solution.
What makes this project special is how we’re rethinking the traditional mobile solar generator. Instead of using standard cargo trailers, we’ve developed a flexible platform that can be customized for different needs. Whether it’s powering a construction site in remote Alaska or providing energy for a weekend festival, the M1A1 can be configured to handle it all. We’re particularly proud that it’s being built right here at our facility.
The development process has given us the chance to incorporate some of the latest advances in portable solar technology, especially when it comes to advanced lithium batteries. We’ve also made sure it can handle the challenging conditions of the Northeast and Northwest, where our hybrid solar-diesel option really shows its worth.
As we wrap up 2024, we’re excited about how this project showcases what’s possible when two innovative companies put their heads together. The M1A1 is more than just another product – it’s a glimpse into the future of mobile solar power.
Looking Forward to 2025
We expect 2025 to be another great year for us here at Sun for Rent, especially with the launch of the M1A1 solar generator rental (or whatever we eventually call it. Hopefully 2025 will be a great year for you too.
